History of the Ore House The history of our barn dates back to 1889 when James Lewis homesteaded 280 acres. The owners over the years include Jerry McWilliams, a State Senator and Nicholas Lakuska, a Russian Count who originally registered the name Pine Grove Ranch in 1920. The Nefgzer Cattle Co. operated the ranch from 1930 until it was sold in February 1971. It then was renovated by Dave Lindow and opened as the Pine Grove Ranch Restaurant. Currently the restaurant is owned by Jeff Little, who purchased it in 1990 and changed the name to The Ore House at the Pine Grove. In 2000, Diane Burns became Owner/General Manager and recently, Dan Emert has been added as Owner/Manager. You will notice as you look around that the heritage of the Pine Grove Ranch lives on through the rustic pieces of memorabilia saved from the ranch and other art collected over the years. The brand on the silo is a "quarter circle b" which is actually an upside down "P" for Pine Grove. At one point, the ranch was known as one of the finest hay ranches in Routt County. We hope you get as much pleasure out of your visit to the Ore House at the Pine Grove as we have in preserving its heritage and serving some of the finest food in the Yampa Valley.
